Update from Ariel
July, 2008
Ariel3I am going to school at Appalachian State and I will be a Sophomore this fall semester. I am very active in the campus Hillel. I am Social Director and I was also awarded the position of Rashi which is a Fellowship in NC Hillel. The fellowship is only given to only 7 people in the state. It requires a lot of time, work and effort -- at least 10 hours a week on Hillel related material. At the end of each semester, I get a stipend of $500. It sounds more like an internship to me but then again, I don't know the difference between an internship and a fellowship. As my big project, I am coordinating one of the first ever, and hopefully many more to come, Statewide Weekend Conventions. It is named "OISH". It still is being worked on and I am very excited about it. On MLK weekend of 2009, college students from all over the state will come to Boone, NC for the convention. There will be services, food, a dance, skiing, programs, and much more. I really never knew how much work it would be.

Ariel1I have a boyfriend now. His named Jai (pronounced Jay). We've been together for a little over 4 months and I like him very much. He goes to school with me. He is a year ahead of me and plans to major in Architecture. This past weekend I went to a big rock concert, called Warp Tour, where more than 25 bands played and we got to see a bunch of them.

As for the family, we are still working hard on the big move. I was so excited about moving and the moving process.... haha how wrong was I! I now understand why everyone laughed when I said I was excited... IT'S SO MUCH WORK! However, the house is beautiful and my dad absolutely loves his new job. He finally gets time off and the ability to get some rest.

GaffneysSwimUpdate from Stephenie Lichtman
July, 2008
Mike has started his Research Fellowship in Dermatology at Harvard University. Am I proud? You bet! He has moved into a delightful two bedroom apartment in Cambridge with a roommate. Ali is spending the Summer with us and is working in Ken's office. She returns to Johnson and Wales in Providence, RI in Sept to finish college. She is a business major. She has a wonderful apt in Providence. Ken, Ali, and I are vacationing in Maine the last week in August and have rented a beautiful house that sits on a lake and is a few miles to the coast. We plan to bike, sail, wall, and have fun. I am working on the business plan for an endeavor that I will launch in September. Details to follow. Meantime, I am enjoying the Summer. I am reading as many books as I can, going to the gym, walking on the Boardwalk, and watching the beach from the side lines (I can't go into the sun). It is now almost 5 months since my total knee replacement and I am doing great (no kickboxing, however). I have been meeting friends in the City but is is just too hot to do it too often.

Clara1We welcome
Barton’s new sister, Clara.
She was found, collarless,
in our neighborhood.
The Vet says
she is about 5 years old
and a bit overweight
at 10 pounds.
She is a MinPin
but since Bobby is not thrilled
with small dogs, we told him
she is a Doberman.

Clara2Update: July 18
After a week of Barton vs. Clara, he won. Clara is now living with a family in Tappahannock, Virginia.

Seth, 24, is working in accounting and inventory at the Fall River School. He is living on his own and playing golf.

This year, Jay and Andrea celebrate their 30th Anniversary. Andrea is teaching preschool music and taking music courses and golf lessons.

W
e're all fine. Nothing much new except that our daughter Melissa who lives in Berkeley will be getting married next August in California, to the love of her life, so we're very pleased.

Our grandson Nate is a little over two and a constant delight to us. I'm not very good at forwarding pics on the web, so this verbiage will have to do.
